The new Ernesto Neto show ‘Slow iss good’ opened tonight at the Tanya Bonakdar Gallery in New York.
Brazilian born, Neto is well-known for his ability to transform sculpture in to an interactive and moving experience for the viewer. This show focuses on his new material obsession – crochet. Yes that’s right it’s not about old ladies anymore, as Neto takes this form and blows it up to a monumental scale.
His colourful crochet circles are attached together to create these amazing gallery specific pieces with bouncy ball filled walkways, which hang beautifully from the ceilings. As with many Neto exhibitions, these works are meant to be experienced, so take your shoes off, pull yourself up, balance yourself on the crochet covered balls and view the world from a different perspective.
Once there, experience the calmness as you float above the gallery floor. It’s an incredible reminder that the simple things in life are the best.
It’s an amazing show, so get there soon to see it. It closes on 25 May 2012.
