Success for Equal Rights for Design Campaign

Seen as we are enjoying the best of British sport in London, I thought it would be a good time to talk and celebrate the best in British design and indeed the murky world of fake knock-off design classics.

The core issue in this murky world is that  designs can be copied 25 years after the death of a designer and not 70 years like works of literature, drama, music, film and art. So this leads to lots of designs being copied and sold cheaply unlike this beautiful and real (pictured) RAR chair by Charles & Ray Eames sold by Vitra.

Championed by Elle Decoration UK and Sir Terence Conran, the Equal Rights for Design campaign has hit success as the government has officially proposed to change the law from 25 years for registered designs to the life of the creator plus 70 years.

Sir Terence Conran says, “Design has an important contribution to make to the growth of the UK economy at a time when it is sorely needed. If the UK Government were to change the copyright laws that are intended to protect designers in this country, it would go a long way to ensuring our brilliant young designers can make a decent living out of their creativity.”

Congrats to all involved!

Design Classics from HAY at The Lollipop Shoppe

Design Classics from HAY at The Lollipop Shoppe

The Lollipop Shoppe has announced the arrival of super new products from Danish designers HAY.

These design classic pieces were originally created by the FDB (The Danish Consumers’ Cooperative Society), who aimed to deliver quality affordable furniture to the masses through industrial production. And as we all know these design classics continue to resonate today with those who appreciate modern style and quality design.

So a big thank you to HAY for bringing them back, as part of their goal to celebrate the greatness of Danish design from the 1950/60’s.

These pieces are VERY cool. Check them out at The Lollipop Shoppe.
